Have you recently received emails from individuals claiming to be "hackers" who say they have stolen your email password? Some of these emails even include one of the passwords you've used or are currently using. They threaten to leak your personal data, videos, or steal files from your computer if you don't pay them in Bitcoin.
This is not true. These emails are highly deceptive, and whether you pay them or not, they cannot harm you. They are what are called distortion/phishing emails designed to extort large sums of money from you through threats. You should ignore them, delete them from your inbox, and generally not take such threats seriously.
You might wonder HOW they found your password. The answer is that they have hacked some websites and stolen member passwords. Apparently, some of the websites they hacked had your information.
In cases like these, what we recommend is if you haven't already changed your password and are using the one they mentioned in the email, change it IMMEDIATELY wherever you use it. You should choose more complex passwords that include more digits, combinations of numbers and letters. NEVER leave notes on your computer with your passwords.
You should always ensure that you have
antivirus and
antimalware software installed and up to date on your computer to detect and remove malicious software promptly.
